Well over a hundred years ago, in 1888, John William Brooke, a master saddler and harness maker, opened a shop in Doncaster Market Place. By the time his two sons, Frank And Eddie joined the business, the need for saddlery was declining and was eventually discontinued. The business then developed into selling leather goods and grindery for shoe repairing, both wholesale and retail. In 1938 the firm moved into larger premises, still in Doncaster Market Place.

At this time they began selling outdoor protective clothing and footwear.Eddie’s son John joined the business in 1952, developing  and specialising in protective clothing for all types of work, in a full range of sizes.

More recently, Alison, John’s daughter and her husband Peter joined the business and have expanded the range of hiking, walking and camping equipment, which we now offer.

With four generations of family running the business from 1888 to the present time, J.W.Brooke & Sons Ltd. Is probably the oldest family firm in Doncaster. Over more than a hundred years, the goods offered for sale have changed with the times, but we are proud that the excellent value and service offered to our customers, hasn’t changed and will continue.
